How do I share an idea, question, article, or website with others?

You can share thoughts, articles or other content-rich websites with others from several places. This is sometimes known as posting a status update. You can use the posting module to share information:

From your homepage.

You can use the posting module near your photo towards the top of the page.

  1. Click inside the text box and type in your remark.
    • Text is limited to 600 characters maximum.
  2. To attach a link, type in the URL. Allow a few seconds for a summary to automatically display.
  3. Select an option under Share with:
    • Select LinkedIn to show the update to everyone in your extended network including your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree connections.
    • Select Connections to show the update to only your 1st degree connections.
    • Select LinkedIn + Twitter to have your update visible on both your LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.
    • Note: Only the first 140 characters will be visible on Twitter. Learn more about Twitter on LinkedIn. You can manage your Twitter settings from the Profile section of your Settings page.

  4. Click Share.

An update will remain visible at the top of your Profile and in your Activity module until it is replaced by a more recent update or until you delete it. You can select who can see your Activity Feed, which shows your recent updates in the Activity section on your profile.

From Discussions in your groups.

From partner sites like Wall Street Journal or New York Times.
  1. Click the LinkedIn icon and complete the posting module options.
  2. Click Share.

  3. Click Share.
From any webpage when using the LinkedIn Sharing Bookmarklet.
  • Works for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari browser.
From someone's update by Liking.
  • Click the Like link under an update.
  • Liking sends a network update.

Note: The connections you share with will receive a message in their LinkedIn Inbox. Depending on their preferences, they may also receive an external email alerting them that you have shared something with them.
